The film's history spans from the Jacob Brønnum Estrup era in the 1870s to the beginning of social welfare in Copenhagen under social democratic leadership. It is told over several generations with a love story as the engine for the political development Copenhagen is going through. The film was included in the election campaign leading up to the municipal elections in 1929, where the party ended up winning 35 out of 55 mandates at Copenhagen City Hall. The film has the subtitle "Filmsblade af Københavns municipale Historie" and was produced for the Social Democratic Association.
